Baseband Technologies Inc. is a small custom-design house specializing in Global Positioning Systems. Our strength lies in our marketing and system development expertise, extensive industry contacts and firm grasp of the GPS market trends. We commit to provide our clients the best technically and economically sound solutions at all times. As a testament to this philosophy, over 90% of our clients are repeat customers.
Baseband Technologies Inc. focuses on advance Global Positioning System (GPS) research and development. In brief, the Global Positioning System consists of a constellation of 24+ satellites that were originally developed by the US military to provide all weather, 24/7 and worldwide navigation capabilities. Using a GPS receiver, a user can receive signals broadcast from these GPS satellites to determine precise geographic, timing and velocity information. Our Technology Traditionally, a GPS receiver system consists of hardware components such as an active GPS antenna, an RF (Radio Frequency) front-end module and a dedicated ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) to perform various signal processing algorithms.
Our software-based GPS receiver design is a new approach where we will replace the dedicated ASIC by a micro-processor that is native to a target application. For example, using our software-based GPS receiver design, a mobile wireless device or a PDA developer can easily implement GPS functions using whatever microprocessor is being used in that device.
Our Technological Advantage The principal advantage of a software-based GPS receiver is not only to eliminate the ASIC which lower the overall power consumption and the cost for enabling GPS on the mobile devices, it can also be easily updated during the operational life cycle with new software that adds additional features and functionalities that can be tailored to suit individual customer specifications a feature that traditional hardware receivers can never match.
Bringing GPS to the Masses In today's burgeoning world of technological development, we are always searching for new ways to bring new technologies to the consumer. One of the challenges facing the GPS industry is providing a low cost approach to maximize the use of satellite navigation technology. Currently the consumers can find GPS products as an add-on to other high end products like automobiles or as standalone handheld units for hikers and geocachers. The challenge is to further minimize the cost and efficiency of GPS receiver technology so that the common consumer can include it in their everyday products and truly take GPS wherever they go. This article discusses how to bring GPS technology to the masses. [More]
